To all qualified electors of West Bend Joint School District No. 1:
A school board election will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 to fill two at-large seats on the West Bend School Board, each with an expiration date of April 2019. Interested individuals are required to file a DECLARATION OF CANDIDACY form and a CAMPAIGN REGISTRATION STATEMENT. These completed forms can be dropped off at (or mailed to) the Education Service Center, 735 S. Main Street, West Bend (across from Badger Middle School). The deadline for filing is 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2016.
Please note that our offices will be closed December 24, 25, 31 and January 1st. A small number of employees will be in the office December 28-30.

Money raised from Say Cheese! will help the SkillsUSA team with expenses for the SkillsUSA state competition. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel and allows them to compete in competitions related to various subject areas within Tech Ed, help out with community service projects and become a leader in the technological field. SkillsUSA mission is to help its members become world-class workers, leaders and responsible American citizens.
The Board of Education of the West Bend School District unanimously approved to certify the 2016 tax levy of $37,931,947 at the October 26, 2015 Board of Education meeting. The approved levy is $1,367,913 or 3.7% higher than the prior year. This is the second consecutive year that the District Equalized Assessed Value (EAV) has increased from the prior year – 1.95% (14-15) 1.96% (15-16).
Under revenue limits, as property valuations increase, the mill rate may decrease due to the total levy being divided over a larger total worth. The District’s tax rate will increase for 2016, due mainly to an increase in equalized value and a decrease in state aid.
The School Board approved an $8.76 tax rate for 2016, which is an increase from last year’s tax rate of $8.61. Taxpayers will see an increased mill rate of 15 cents per $1,000 of assessed value due to a decrease in state aid and an increase in property values.

On Monday October 19, the WBHS Compass team will host an all-school assembly on bullying featuring some of the best skaters, BMXers and inline skaters in the world, while learning about the dangers of bullying. This $20,000 dollar program is presented by ASA Entertainment at no cost to the WBHS. WATCH them in action.
Vote today for Fair Park teacher, Mr. Durant, to receive a $2,500 grant to purchase a telepresence robot that will provide a homebound student the opportunity to join the classroom in real-time, interact with other students one-on-one, and participate in group discussion. The Farmers Insurance Thank America's Teachers program will award up to sixty $2,500 grants to the top 20 vote getters in three designated regions. The WBSD currently has one telepresence robot used by a first-grade student at Fair Park. The WBSD is the only school district in Wisconsin to offer this innovative technology for students.
At Monday night’s Board of Education meeting, the Board approved plans to offer a community-based 4K program starting with the 2016-17 school year. This optional program will be offered at no cost to parents. The board also approved to establish a pre-school academy, offering workshops for 4-year-olds and their parents to be help them prepare both socially and academically for school.
