WBHS Snowcoming, formerly known as Winter Formal or Charity Ball, will be held February 27, 2016. Snowcoming spirit week, formerly Charity Week, will be held the week of February 22 – 26, with a different charity fundraiser each day, themed dress-up days, a pep rally on Friday, and East vs. West Basketball on Thursday night. Stay tuned for more info on this fun filled week.
If a GUEST PASS is needed, please complete and return to the high school office for administrative approval before the end of the day on Thursday, February 25, 2016. Guests must be at least in the 9th grade. Guests must either be presently enrolled in high school or be a high school graduate. Guests must present a valid student ID or driver's license at the door, and have it available upon request during the evening.

WBHS Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) members placed 6th out of 21 schools at the FBLA competition at Random Lake High School last weekend. Over 60 events were offered for members to choose from such as taking a written test on economics or giving a presentation on Business Ethics. Students who placed in the top three in the competitive events earned a spot to compete at the State Leadership Conference, which will be held in La Crosse on April 11 and 12, 2016, and are on their way to the Step Up to the Challenge.

To get kids excited about reading and encourage more adults to spend time reading with their children, the WBSD is partnering with the National Education Association (NEA) to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday in the national Read Across America event on Wednesday, March 2, 2016.
The WBSD is looking for volunteers to read one book to an elementary classroom in our PreK through sixth grade classrooms; books will be provided at the event. We would like to have one volunteer reader for each one of our classrooms…that’s a total of 150 volunteers!
Volunteers are needed from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. at Rolfs Education Center, Jackson, McLane, and, and from 12:45 – 1:45 p.m. at Green Tree, Fair Park and Decorah Elementary Schools. Silverbrook Intermediate School needs volunteers to read from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. for several classrooms.

Nominations are now being accepted for the West Bend School District’s Doug Ziegler Advocate for Education Award which recognizes and honors individuals or a group who have made a significant contribution to education and/or the profession in West Bend. Nominations must be received at the WBSD office, 735 S. Main St., West Bend, by March 1, 2016.
Eligible nominees will have the following minimum requirements:
- The activity of action being recognized must be completed or ongoing, as opposed to being promised.
- The impact of the activity, actions or contribution should be viewed as long-term, enhancing education, and easily recognizable.
Doug Ziegler, a 1944 graduate of West Bend High School, has worked effortlessly for over 60 years to build a legacy of community involvement in the West Bend School District. He served the education community through service as a West Bend School District school board member. He served his state and nation through service as a board member on many non-profit boards. Doug Ziegler supports the community through his commitments to local causes, business contributions to support the growth of thousands of regional citizens and his legacy of service to West Bend, making him the single greatest graduate of West Bend High School.
Members of East National Honor Society raised $1226.76 for Habitat for Humanity of Washington County through a Loose Coin Drive held earlier this month. Habitat will use the money to purchase appliances for its Jackson home. East NHS officers will present the appliances to Habitat at the home dedication in January.
Congratulations to YOUR West Bend High School Drumline! They competed at the Fresh Coast Classic Drumline Competition at UWM this past Saturday and won FIRST PLACE, unseating Rufus King Varsity Drumline from their championship spot. Under the student leadership of Ben Kroll and Troy Matenaer, the WBHS Drumline represented our school with talent, amazing work ethic, good sportsmanship and class. This is a feat not to be taken lightly; we won third place last year and made it directly to first place this year! Stop into the band room this week to check out the beautiful crystal trophy!

To all qualified electors of West Bend Joint School District No. 1:
A school board election will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 to fill two at-large seats on the West Bend School Board, each with an expiration date of April 2019. Interested individuals are required to file a DECLARATION OF CANDIDACY form and a CAMPAIGN REGISTRATION STATEMENT. These completed forms can be dropped off at (or mailed to) the Education Service Center, 735 S. Main Street, West Bend (across from Badger Middle School). The deadline for filing is 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2016.
Please note that our offices will be closed December 24, 25, 31 and January 1st. A small number of employees will be in the office December 28-30.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce.
