Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer hours Log sheet.pdf

West Bend East & West High Schools know that student involvement in the community is important. Volunteer work identifies you as a person involved with the community and committed to giving time for the well-being of others. Students with a history of volunteer work have an edge when seeking employment, applying to colleges, or competing for scholarships

Volunteering is not required, but encouraged. If you volunteer 100+ hours while in high school you will be noted on your final high school transcript, as well as, in the graduation program.

Below are some guidelines and suggestions:

  • Choose your volunteer experiences based on the idea of helping to better the community
  • An emphasis is placed on helping nonprofit organizations
  • Hours earned for NHS, Key Club, SEED, Interact or clubs with service learning requirements can count towards volunteer program hours
  • Sports Team Managers can earn volunteer hours
  • Participating in a food/clothing drive (donating food/clothes does NOT count)
  • Volunteering for a teacher during an off hour is acceptable
  • Camp Counselors/Mission Trip participants can record a maximum of 8 hours per day
  • If you are planning on volunteering a large number of hours (20+) for one organization please get prior approval before you begin volunteering
  • Here are some suggestions to help you get started volunteering in the community:
    • Volunteer with the United Way, or other philanthropic organizations
    • Help build with Habitat for Humanity
    • Volunteer as a tutor or coach
    • Volunteer at the West Bend Library
    • Play games at a senior center
  • If you are looking for more ideas, check out the Volunteer Center of Washington County
  • Silverbrook Camps are limited to 6 hours a day.

Hours may NOT be earned for:

  • Any service with a material or monetary reward
  • Any activity that advances or inhibits religion (participation in a religious service, conducting religious instruction, assisting with AV/Technical during service)
  • Court-referred community service hours
  • Fundraising for West Bend High Schools clubs, sports or organizations, or other outside organizations that you are a member does not count. For example, working at a food stand to help raise money for the baseball team.
  • Hours working for a business or organization that earns a profit
  • Hours helping a family member/family friend in a role that typically any family member would do, e.g. babysitting for a sibling, household chores, yardwork, etc.
  • Travel time to and from the volunteer activity
  • Animal sitting
  • Hours worked prior to the last day of your 8th grade year
  • Volunteering for organizations that have a political affiliation

*All hours are subject to review by the College & Career Center

All volunteer hours should be submitted to and are tracked through the College & Career Center. If you would like to get a report of your total hours email the College & Career Center or stop in.
