Ziegler Advocate for Education Award

Nominations are now being accepted for the West Bend School District’s Doug Ziegler Advocate for Education Award which recognizes and honors individuals or a group who have made a significant contribution to education and/or the profession in West Bend. Nominations must be received at the WBSD office, 735 S. Main St., West Bend, by March 1, 2016.

Eligible nominees will have the following minimum requirements:

  • The activity of action being recognized must be completed or ongoing, as opposed to being promised.
  • The impact of the activity, actions or contribution should be viewed as long-term, enhancing education, and easily recognizable.

Doug Ziegler, a 1944 graduate of West Bend High School, has worked effortlessly for over 60 years to build a legacy of community involvement in the West Bend School District.  He served the education community through service as a West Bend School District school board member.  He served his state and nation through service as a board member on many non-profit boards. Doug Ziegler supports the community through his commitments to local causes, business contributions to support the growth of thousands of regional citizens and his legacy of service to West Bend, making him the single greatest graduate of West Bend High School.

School Board Election

To all qualified electors of West Bend Joint School District No. 1:

A school board election will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 to fill two at-large seats on the West Bend School Board, each with an expiration date of April 2019.  Interested individuals are required to file a DECLARATION OF CANDIDACY form and a CAMPAIGN REGISTRATION STATEMENT.  These completed forms can be dropped off at (or mailed to) the Education Service Center, 735 S. Main Street, West Bend (across from Badger Middle School).  The deadline for filing is 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2016.

Please note that our offices will be closed December 24, 25, 31 and January 1st. A small number of employees will be in the office December 28-30.

Say cheese!

Now is your chance to retake that awkward family photo just in time for the holidays. The WBHS SkillsUSA team is offering one-hour portrait sessions for families and individuals in the studio at the West Bend high schools.  Take advantage of this picture-perfect opportunity for only $40 on December 12 and December 19, 2015.  You will receive a disc of all photos taken. Register HERE!

Money raised from Say Cheese! will help the SkillsUSA team with expenses for the SkillsUSA state competition. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce.  SkillsUSA helps each student excel and allows them to compete in competitions related to various subject areas within Tech Ed, help out with community service projects and become a leader in the technological field.  SkillsUSA mission is to help its members become world-class workers, leaders and responsible American citizens.


Thanksgiving Food Drive

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching!

The Badger Student Council traditionally collects food items at this time of year. Beginning Monday, November 16 through Friday, November 20, Student Council members will accept non-perishable food items. Please drop off donations in front of the counseling office before school and during lunch.

Suggested items include: boxed mashed potatoes, stuffing mix, canned vegetables, biscuit, dessert and gravy mixes.

Badger students will be rewarded with Badger Buck stamps for EACH item donated. Students may earn DOUBLE stamps if they bring in the following items on the corresponding days:

Monday – Mashed Potatoes
Tuesday – Stuffing
Wednesday – Canned green beans, corn, cranberry sauce
Thursday – Biscuit mix, Gravy
Friday – Dessert mix (cake, brownies, pudding, etc…)

Monetary donations will also be accepted throughout the week. Students will earn THREE Badger Buck stamps for each $1 donated.

Vote Today!

Vote today for Fair Park teacher, Mr. Durant, to receive a $2,500 grant to purchase a telepresence robot that will provide a homebound student the opportunity to join the classroom in real-time, interact with other students one-on-one, and participate in group discussion. The Farmers Insurance Thank America's Teachers program will award up to sixty $2,500 grants to the top 20 vote getters in three designated regions. The WBSD currently has one telepresence robot used by a first-grade student at Fair Park. The WBSD is the only school district in Wisconsin to offer this innovative technology for students.


Craft & Vendor Fair

The West Bend Public Schools Foundation invites you to the 2015 Craft & Vendor Fair on Saturday, November 7 from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. in the WBHS South Gym.  Get a jump start on your holiday shopping and help the West Bend Public Schools Foundation reach its $3 million goal to renovate the high school auditorium, now called The Silver Lining Arts Center. WBHS Indoor Marching Band Concert

Save the date for the WBHS Indoor Marching Band Scholarship Concert on Tuesday, October 27 at 7 p.m. in The Silver Lining Arts Center.  Tickets are available at the door and cost $5 for adults and $3 for children. My School Color Run

Students at Badger Middle School will walk, jog, and run their way toward a healthier life while raising funds for Badger and making memories that will last a lifetime.  Badger Middle School will host a 5K MY SCHOOL COLOR RUN on October 25 (check-in 1 p.m.; start time 2 p.m.) open to the school and community in an effort to raise funds while having FUN.

My School Color Run goes beyond traditional fundraising. Rather than sell goods, this program aims to engage the entire student body in a fitness initiative to instill a life-long healthy way of living.


“We’re extremely excited about the launch of the My School Color Run Program at our school”, says Koren Wawrzyn, a teacher at Badger Middle School and coordinator of Badger’s My School Color Run.  “We’re looking forward to involving our entire student body and faculty in a fun and healthy program.  We want to engage the entire community and encourage local businesses and individual community members to get involved.”
 

Besides individual donations, the school will accept business pledges. Additionally, the final color celebration run will be open to the public. Complete the REGISTRATION FORM BEFORE October 12 to guarantee a race bib, color packet, and T-shirt.Return your registration, along with $25 to Badger Middle School office. WBSD Annual Meeting

Electors in the West Bend School District will vote on a $37 million tax levy to support the district's 2015-2016 budget at the 96th Annual Meeting of Electors, Monday, July 27, 2015, at Badger Middle School in the cafeteria. This represents a 2.46 percent increase in tax levy from the 2014-15 budget year. If approved, taxpayers would see a .22 cent tax increase per $1,000 home value over last year.
