Research has shown that a rigorous high school curriculum has a positive impact for success in post-secondary educational endeavors. Courses designated as Advanced Placement (AP) are college-level courses that provide challenging coursework that may prepare students for an optional exam given in May each school year. The College Entrance Examination Board provides the AP exams.

Advanced Placement Courses offered at West Bent East and West High Schools.

Advanced Placement Exams

The decision to take the exam is the student's. It is highly recommended that each student discuss this decision with the instructor early in the course to allow the extra time needed to invest in exam preparation. Students must register for AP exams by November 1 and payment will follow after the registration deadline. The cost of each AP exam is $94.

Advantages of Taking the Exam

AP courses offer students the advantage of earning not only high school credit, but if their scores are high enough and college policies are agreeable, college credit and/or advanced standing. The University of Wisconsin (UW) System has a policy that assures any student whose AP test score is a 3 or above (on a scale of 1 to 5) will be awarded some credit or at least advanced standing.

The West Bend School District supports equity and open access to our AP program.
