Be Part of the Madness
Order mulch for your garden and landscaping needs and help support the West Bend Public Schools Foundation. This year, proceeds from Mulch Madness will allow the WBPS Foundation to purchase iPads for all six of our elementary schools.  Research proves that iPads in the classroom have a strong impact on young learners.  Currently, each of our elementary schools have one classroom set (20) of iPads to share.  Through Mulch Madness, the WBPS Foundation will purchase additional iPads.

Order online, or complete the Mulch Madness order form(available at all schools and the Education Service Center) and send it to West Bend Public Schools Foundation, 735 South Main Street, West Bend, WI  53095. Please make checks payable to West Bend Public Schools Foundation.

Distinguished Alumni Award
The West Bend School District is currently accepting nominations for its Distinguished Alumni Award, which recognizes and honors WBHS graduates who have accomplished, notable academic, humanitarian, athletic, artistic, cultural or historically significant achievement since graduation. Please submit the nomination application before April 5, 2012 to Jim Curler, East High School Principal, 1305 E. Decorah Rd., West Bend. Eligible alumni will have the following minimum requirements:


* Graduated from West Bend School District High Schools (may be graduate of West Bend High School, East High School or West High School).
 
* He/She has been out of high school for at least 20 years.
 
* He/She has been recognized by peers in their vocation or avocation for their achievements at a State, National or International level
 



2012 Early Childhood Screening
Early Childhood Screening for children of West Bend residents who will be 4 years old, on or before Sept. 1, 2012, will take place on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Decorah Elementary School, 1225 Sylvan Way in West Bend. Please register by calling 335-6193 between 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, beginning Monday, February 13, 2012. Head Start and Title I students DO NOT need to register. For additional information, please call Cassie Martin at 335‑5511.
Early Entrance to Kindergarten – applications for children who will be 5-years-old before December 1, 2012 must be submitted before March 15, 2012. Contact 262-335-5425 for more information.



 

Would You Like Fries with That?
Local McDonald’s Owner/Operator, Kilian Management, invites families to the  McDonalds restaurants in West Bend for designated McTeacher Nights to help raise money for participating elementary schools. School staff will work behind the counter taking orders from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. while families have a great  time dining at McDonalds. Killian Management will donate a 20 percent of the sales from each of the designated McTeacher nights back to the school. On their designated McTeacher nights, Decorah earned $671.34, McLane earned $891.56, Fair Park earned $790.00 and Green Tree earned $868.48.

Open Enrollment Begins February 6, 2012
Wisconsin’s inter-district public school open enrollment program allows parents to apply for their children to attend school district other than the one in which they live. Applications may be submitted to up to three nonresident school districts. Students in 5K to grade 12 may apply to participate in open enrollment. Open enrollment for pre-K, 4-K and early childhood education is limited.

 
The Open Enrollment application period for the 2012-13 school year is from February 6- April 30, 2012. The application period closes at 4 PM on April 30, 2012. Late applications will not be accepted for any reason! Please call 262-335-5438 with any questions.


We Hear You West Bend
The City of West Bend, in partnership with the West Bend Joint School District, UW-Washington County and Moraine Park Technical College are asking for your help to vote for “West Bend” in the Reader’s Digest, “We Hear You America” campaign. Join the many communities throughout the nation who are registering at the Reader’s Digest website to promote their city. A total of 18 prizes will be awarded to nominated cities in the form of a donation from Reader’s Digest in support of their community initiatives. The first place prize is $50,000.  In 2011, the City of West Bend received a $1,000 donation from Reader’s Digest, so let’s make it happen again in 2012. Go to: www.ReadersDigest.com/America and follow the online instructions to register and then start voting. You can vote every minute of every day … there is no limit! All entries must be completed by 11:59 p.m. on March 1, 2012.

The West Bend School District is selling surplus inventory at www.publicsurplus.com.  Only public institutions are allowed to sell items on this site which offers FREE access to the public.
